Fly Fishing Mad

New Zealand offers some of the best fly fishing in the world. Fly fishing New Zealand covers every area of fly fishing possible, including:

Brown and rainbow trout

Sea run salmon

Ocean fish such as marlin and tuna.

Most inland lakes have stocks of both brown and rainbow trout, and while you can expect to catch fish of arount 3 -4 pound in weight it is possible to locate fish around the 10 pound mark.

The crystal clear streams in the South island offer fantastic dry and nymph fishing where the prey are spotted using polaroid sunglasses. In the North island lake Taupo and the Tongariro river provide lure and fly fishing of top standards.

Equipment

For all round use a number seven fly rod will suffice, along with a floating and slow sinking line plus a shooting head line for downstream fishing in big fast waters such as the Tongariro river.
